Bronnach Castle

Set in 1000 acres of woods, pasture and gardens, Bronnach is the perfect Scottish Castle.  From the moment you enter the great South Door and ascend the grand stair to the Great Hall you’ll become enveloped in the rich history and unique culture of Aberdeenshire.

The ancestral home of Clan Bronnach, a castle was first recorded near the village of Old Bronnach in the twelfth century on land given to William fitz Bronnach by King David I following the Battle of Strathboggle in which William was said to have saved the king’s life by throwing his man servant in the way of an English arrow.  The current castle has its origins in the mid seventeenth century when Bronnach of Bronnach, Eighth of that Name, wed Gertrude, only daughter and heir to the Marquis of Beverley.  The Marquis died of on his way home from the wedding breakfast of what we today would call salmonella.  Gertrude inherited his extensive land on the Braes of Beverly which funded the building of the castle we see today.  Bronnach was said to be the inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella Castle

The Offer

Bronnach hosts major exhibitions throughout the year.  This season we are delighted to have the very foot bath in which Sir Fergus Ardanach was soaking his feet when he had his famous encounter with the Blue Spectre, as event said to have been the inspiration for the ghost of Jacob Marley in Charles Dickens’  ‘Christmas Carol’.

Guard Alba’s greatest treasure is currently on display in the Great Hall.  Titian’s ‘The Marriage of Venus and Mars was the Venetian master’s last work and brought back to Scotland by Sir Frobisher Ardanach.

Trigger Warning:  The Titian contains scenes which some visitors may find disturbing.  If you are in any way affected, counselling is available.

Bronnach has two holiday apartments within the castle.  Come and live like a laird and enjoy a walk in the beautiful gardens after the grounds have closed to the public.  The apartments are self contained and equipped to the highest standard.*

*Note:  both holiday apartments are, unfortunately, currently unavailable.  We hope they will become available in the near future
